This recipe for Red Velvet Oreo Truffle Bars is delicious and contains some of my favorite things. Red velvet? Oh yea. Oreo truffles? Yes ma’am. White chocolate? You betcha. A trifecta of amazing treats combined to make one tasty bar? Ding ding ding!
I’m not normally one to think a dessert is sexy, but this dessert is sexy. The deep red color of the red velvet brownie, the creaminess of the truffle layer and the white chocolate topping make for a tantalizing attractive dessert.
This recipe seemed a little out of my league judging by the pictures but it was surprisingly easy and really just required enough time and patience to bring all the elements together. With a couple of basic recipes combined this mega-recipe actually leaves enough room for experimentation. For instance, the original recipe calls for white chocolate pudding mix in the red velvet brownie layer and milk chocolate on top instead of white chocolate. My grocery store was out of white chocolate pudding mix, or maybe that flavor doesn’t exist on the east coast? Either way, I was baffled and searching for an alternative at the last minute. I decided to use cheesecake flavored pudding mix in the brownie layer and it turned out delicious.
This recipe could easily be adapted for different holidays, too. Off the top of my head I’m thinking, add some Andes mints to the truffle layer, see my recipe here, and garnish the top of the chocolate with chopped Andes mint. Or you could add crushed peppermint to the brownie layer and garnish the top of the chocolate with it. Voila! You’ve instantly taken a base recipe and adjusted it to use on other holidays.
I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Valentine’s Day recipes that are easy and super fun, in this case sexy, to share with your special someone. My hubs loved these!
