Black on Black…Day to Night

Normally in the summer I shy away from black because it draws the sun like an unwanted ant party at a picnic. But if done right, it isn’t so bad. I love this Calvin Klein sleeveless silk blouse. It’s light and comfortable and paired with high-waisted cropped trousers makes a killer duo. What I particularly loved about this look is that the black on black combo mimics a romper. And I love a romper. Then I started thinking, I love this outfit and it has potential. Don’t you hate when you start feeling like you wasted something almost magical on work? Well, do give this outfit the outing it deserved I made a few adjustments to kick it into high gear.

I use to be über intimidated by modifying my outfit from day to night. It seemed daunting, complicated and scary. The fact is, if you have a great outfit as a base, you can tweek a few elements, like accessories, shoes and make-up to make the whole look more dramatic. For the day, I wore my tried-and-true Steve Madden metallic oxfords, I die for these similar Rachel Zoe oxfords or these by Dolce Vita. Androgynous shoes are an interesting addition to most outfits in my humble opinion. I wore a simple cuff with my watch for work, went lighter on the make-up and carried my “everyday, I was a good girl at Christmas” Michael Kors bag. The day version is simple yet still appealing. The tie detailing on the shirt and the oxfords kept the look current and anything but mediocre. The fun part is transitioning the look for date night. A strappy heel instantly adds sex appeal and more femininity. I lost the work watch and added a few more black and gold bangles. To pick up the gold accents I carried a vintage handbag that belonged to my great-grandma Martinek, she had great taste. The white stands out in a hot, summery Miami kinda way. The chain link is fun and reflects the last rays of light. And to add the va va voom a red lippy and smudgy black eye liner. I love the difference in the day to night. What’s your favorite way to transition from work to werk?
